Call for Submissions: Women’s Defining Moments

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

By Danielle Young

When writing and empowerment intersect, inspiration often follows. In 2006, Andrea “came out” as a rape survivor and created a program called Living Out Loud for survivors of sexual violence. The program posits that many women have similar defining times in their lives, moments when they are awakened by unmistakable shifts from being powerless to powerful—what the founders of Living Out Loud describe as a transition “from whispering their worth, to roaring it.”

Hear Us Roar! Is a collection of autobiographical stories that, like Andrea’s, celebrate the vitality, strength, and power of women across the globe. Its goal is to collect stories from 100 women by July 31, 2008, publish them in a book by the end of the year, and raise $100,000 from sales June 2009.

If you or someone you know is ready to roar, check out Hear Us Roar! for more information and to submit your story. The first 25 women to share their stories will automatically be considered for a Hear Us Roar! grant. Details will be announced soon. But don’t delay—only the first 25 storytellers will qualify.
