Doctors come and go. Nurses stay.

Backstory

I'm an ICU nurse in an academic medical center. I appreciate the doctors I work with, but I get the great privilege of being the one who spends 12 hours with the patient and the family every shift that I work. I get to care for them during the most terrifying and vulnerable time they will ever experience. My job is to watch over them, to attend to their needs, and to keep them safe. I love what I do. It is an honor to stay.

Bevvie says,

My dad is in ICU, so I appreciate this memoir even more. The doctors and the nurses have been great, but the nurses do stay and have helped us tremendously. Thank you!
