Backstory
I took a job as a paraeducator at a public elementary while I work on my degree. I love the kids and, and the actual act of teaching, but I will teach somewhere else, not in this climate of disrespect and control. No raises, reduced pensions and health care, extended time to retirement, a socio-political highwire act every day. You live and work in a fishbowl. Test driven curriculums, and ever increasing credential requirements without compensation. It occurs to me that we may find ourselves dealing with a teacher shortage as I watch talented, dedicated and experienced educators heading for the life boats. Watching what they navigate in a public school every day, I certainly cannot blame them.

It's a shame and a sham. Public education in this country will eventually self-destruct - it's the only way it can end if it keeps going the direction it is. I hope I'm wrong.
