We take for granted things attained.

Backstory

We take for granted things attained.
Complacency permeates the air we breathe.
We go on living and doing, never seeing –
until a turbulent wave hits our beach - that we are
blessed with the best life has to give.

We may believe, because of our military might
we guard it well, but I would add that’s not enough.
If we fall, it will be our own undoing, not a force
attacking from outside.

A hungry enemy waits behind our walls,
anticipating a moment with unbridled glee,
her name is Apathy. She works her wiles quite well,
supported by Complacency, her right hand man.

They work in tandem, their concerted goal
to drive Freedom from his home. Thus
shackle every heart and mind,
leaving behind, only the visage of another time.
