Childhood hell led to adulthood empathy.

Backstory

Being the product of an alcoholic father who has spent more years in prison than out, a mother who only cares about herself and an abusive power-tripping stepfather taught me how to be a good member of society and (I hope) a good parent. I learned everything I never wanted to be by watching what my parents were. They taught me to be a good person by being rotten people. How ironic.

Doc433 says,

I commend your memoir. I too went through a rough upbringing and my results were the same. To never repeat what was heaped on me. Turns out we did okay wouldn't you say?

jennyb says,

iIm always amazed when i look at my parents that I didn't turn out to be a drug addict or alcoholic like both of them. My childhood could have been much worse, but it also could have been MUCH better. Thank you for letting me know that are others who still turned out ok!
