"Bitch, you didn't just say that."

Backstory

St. Patrick's parade weekend. We're in a bar and start talking to a couple from Ireland. Within 20 minutes, she says that Americans have totally f*cked up this country, that Catholics and Protestants are pretty much the same thing, that my father's illness and subsequent death are no excuse for not voting and I am a bad mother for thinking our adult children living independently (as opposed to living with us) is a good thing. I walked out or I would have cut the bitch. Only in NYC....

Wrong-o, about the only in NYC part. A few years ago, a British check-out clerk at a K-Mart, stood there harping on about how spoiled and unruly American children are. This seemed to be an unprompted verbal vomit on her part. No children in sight. I suggested in firm, fighting terms, that perhaps she could repatriate to the U.K. where she would feel more comfortable amongst children and re-acquaint herself with the average standard of living there, but in the meantime, since someone made the unfortunate decision to hire her to work here, she might want to consider doing just that and save her opinions for the break room.

Interesting she is the one saying America is f*cked up when she's the one who spoke to another human being (who she doesn't know) in such a pejorative manner.

accidentaltourist says,

And Americans have a reputation of rudeness in other countries? I can honestly say I would NEVER, not EVER, bad-mouth the country or people as a whole if I were traveling in another country. I might be disappointed in service, I might even complain (probably not), but I would NEVER malign an entire people or lifestyle because of one cold omelet.

People is crazy.

Ditto to this accidentaltourist!
