Backstory
It was recently reported that a 'prominent' republican senator changed his position regarding gay marriage because two years ago his son came out to him. While I am thankful for each change of heart that brings us closer to marriage equality, it is annoying to me that it took him having a gay son to change his mind. It was okay for him to deny the GLBT community a legal marriage for so many years, until it meant one of his own children couldn't get married. Needless to say I appreciate this type of "flip-flopping" (as the political world calls it). And like I said, each change of heart brings us one step closer. I just wish it wouldn't be such an irritating and eye rolling process.

It don't always work. Dick Cheney got a complete change of heart and a gay daughter. He's still a biggot.jl333 says,
Same thing happened with our last mayor. I, too, can't stand the fact that they are only in favor of something until it happens to them. What about all the families that are dealing with it now?? Thanks for your memoir and backstory. It's like you took the words right out of my mouth
