Backstory
At every Relay For Life event, we decorate Luminaria bags in honor of those who have passed away from cancer and those who are battling cancer, and those who have 'survived' cancer (now in remission). During our 24 hour walk, we light each luminaria bag with a candle. The candle burns all night long. Each bag with a candle has a name...

At my work about 5 years ago now, we also could buy something to decorate with a name and hang up in our giant glass window. I forget what the design was--it might have just been a circle. It was the first time I did something like that for my mother. It made me cry every time I walked by and saw it. She died when I was a little girl.We also did a Penny War, which was quite fun. I managed to get everyone involved, trying to "win". We even left notes in each others jars, egging them on. The idea was whoever had the most pennies "won", but you "lost" if your jar had more silver coins or paper money. By teasing everyone that our office was going to win, other offices would stuff dollars in our jar so we'd lose instead. There was also email threats. It got very competitive and I am the least competitive person in the world!
I liked the luminarias the best though. When is your event?

Our Relay for Life event is June 8th at 9:00, and goes until June 9th, 9:00. 24 hour non-stop walk. The American Cancer Society's motto is...Cancer never sleeps, neither will we.Dragonflower says,
I used to work for ACS as a donation keeper tracker in the early 90s. I had a title, but can't remember it. We used to have local events to raise funds throughout the year. They were fun to put on. I think I still have a Making Strides tshirt. Best wishes for a successful Relay.
