Backstory

As spring approaches, I think about going to the zoo. When he was little, my son was crazy about animals, so we spent a lot of time there. My friends find it funny (and I have to agree) that I've seen a lot of animals mating, including kangaroos (she looked bored), hippos (have you ever seen hippos run?), and tortoises (he was quite determined to catch her and she was just as determined to get away).

I even saw Gila monsters in a glass cage that were so rough that the male (I think) bit the female in the neck and her blood splattered onto a nearby animal skull, put there for ambiance. And although that incident was strangely unsettling, I always look forward to spring at the zoo!
