Should I put this picture away?

Backstory

My nearly 13 year old asked this about a photograph of him with his (very) recently deceased grandfather as he was helping me prepare his room for his grandmother to sleep in last night before we all leave for New York for her husband's (his grandfather's) funeral later today.

Believe says,

Shows just what a sweet, sensitive, compassionate person he is. Any chance you'd be interested in an arranged marriage? My daughter is twelve. (Joking.) (kinda.)

My thoughts are with you.

ErikaStellar says,

The simplicity is very heart warming. I'm sorry for your loss.

AQScott says,

Love it when our kids take us by surprise...sounds like Grandma's in good hands...may your collective memories sustain you during this difficult time...

jl333 says,

I'm sorry for your loss. Personally I say keep the picture right where it is. He's still in your hearts.

marymc says,

Leave it. My son has pics of his grandparents in his room, both here and his apartment. It's heartwarming to all generations to know there is that bond.

NumbrOneAunt says,

first, allow me to add my sympathies to those already expressed. next, i agree with Believe about your son's compassion and sensitivity - i'm sure you're very proud of him! last, i think that with regard to his question about whether seeing the picture RIGHT NOW would be upsetting to his grandma, i think you can trust your knowledge of grandma and your gut - do you think it would hurt or help her? {{{HUG}}}

DynamicDbytheC says,

I agree with the above, keep it. WOW. WOW. WOW. Great parenting. I am constantly disappointed by the entitlement attitude of teens and young adults. And here you have raised a loving, compassionate 13-year old with high EQ (emotional intelligence). This is one child that will go a long way in life.

jl333 says,

I should have added, that I love that your 13 year old is mature enough to understand Grandmas feelings of maybe not wanting to see the Grandpas picture right now. This speaks volumes on your parenting!

notjustagirlintheworld says,

Thanks all appreciate all the kind words and good thoughts. The picture stayed and Grandma loved seeing it in his room.

JAD says,

So sorry for your loss. Son sounds very thoughtful and mature.

canadafreeze says,

Lovely story. Glad you left the photo.

P.Laudato says,

Very sorry for your loss.

ShellDeFelice says,

My Dad has been sick with cancer for a while and my Mom already looks like a ghost of her former self. I am so sorry for your beautiful family. What a lovely glimpse into the man your son is on his way to becoming, good job Mom.

Bevvie says,

deepest sympathy!
