Unplanned sickness. Not on the schedule.

Backstory

Like many busy people I manage life through my calendar – synced between phone, tablet, and two computers. During the workday I bounce from one meeting to the next, squeezing in time to cross off action items in between. I am not saying I do not enjoy my work – what I am saying is that while I love my job, time is a precious commodity. After nursing a sore throat the past few days I woke up this morning… with no voice! After sending messages to cancel meetings, an interesting thing happened – my people carried on without me. It was encouraging to know we had developed a team that could pick up and move forward productively, even with a cog missing. If you are so indispensable that your group cannot do its job without you, maybe you are focused on the wrong things. Every position needs a backup, and everyone needs to take time to care for their health – both physically and mentally. For the rest of the day, I’m off the clock!

I've been trying to tell one of our administrators this for a while. Maybe I'll show her this Six! Get well quickly.

Great rationale. I would say you've had an "Aha moment". Take care, get well soon. Listen to your body, it's telling you to rest.

Sometimes not being there is the gift.
