Backstory
Tragic story as a nanny was crossing the street, in the crosswalk, with the baby in the stroller. The two were hit by an SUV sending the nanny flying 30 feet from the impact, dying instantly. The front tire ht the stroller, pushing it several feet with the baby strapped. The nanny was essentially a hero for having properly strapped the baby in. The baby lived. The driver told the police "by the time I looked up, it was too late". One has to ask themselves, why she wasn't looking up in the first place? Was she texting? Nanny killed. Baby saved. Driver charged.

They should check cell phone records when there is an accident. I saw an accident where a woman was on a Bluetooth. When I drive, I ONLY drive.jl333 says,
I had the same thought...check to make sure she wasn't distracted by dialing or texting. As you know DDbytheC, we have a hands free law while driving. And sadly, all too often I still see people texting and driving.accidentaltourist says,
These stories break my heart. There are so many distractins that lead to these kinds of accidents, sadly....drinking a coffee or eating a donut, dealing with a fretting baby or fighting children, digging for a piece of gum in the pocket of your coat. I hope we'll all remember that it only takes a second of distracted driving to change someone else's life...or your own...forever.NumbrOneAunt says,
even with a hands-free device i don't think anyone should be TALKING on the phone while driving, much less texting. i'm with DD - when i drive, i ONLY drive. this is so sad.DynamicDbytheC says,
In my 20s, I worked in a Pediatric Hospital. Every evening the kids who were hit by cars came into the ER and sometimes ICU. I wish Driver Education training would require a trip to the ICU. Just one glimpse of mangled 9-year old on a ventilator would make people accept the serious responsibility of driving. I am tired of the selfishness behind Distracted Driving.Loon says,
