School safety perceptions crumbling from re-education.

Backstory

School doesn't feel safe anymore. Conversations about increased security, arming teachers, and news about victimized kindergarteners lead me to wonder why war has been declared on America's youngest learning institutions. Today's news from Alabama leaves me quaking at my desk, thinking, "Even a small town bus is not safe now."

I am indebted and humbled by those school employees who put themselves between the students and those who would do them harm, and hope that -- as a teacher -- I would do the same. I hope I never have to know (for sure) what action I would take.

Schools have been underfunded, attacked by mandates of standardized testing, and now violent assaulted on our school children is almost commonplace in the United States.

How does this end well?

When will all this madness end ...

Boy, I am not sure, but I think I've checked the news every 30 minutes today for updates about the 6 year old boy held hostage after the bus shooting in Alabama today.
