Sick, evil people murder. There is a law against murder right? And laws against drugs, right? but we still have those. So why does anyone think a gun law will help? Because psychos don't know how to reload? Did you know that if these laws were in place in 1999 it might have prevent Derek Klebold and Eric Harris from having ONE of their guns? (Tec-9 machine pistol) but done nothing to all of their others? (all others used magazines of 10 rounds or less - guess psycho kids know how to reload - must be those evil video games they play).
So if we can't prevent some of the incidents then we just ignore the lot? Background checks at gun shows are such an inconvenience? Let's continue to make it simple to arm the masses with assault weapons? Keep fighting the good fight.
L2 - In VA background checks are done at gun shows - it is one of things I enjoy about going to them. At all 5 shows that I've been to in the last 2 years the minimum arrested per show has been 3. I go for a few hours with a group and have gotten to enjoy the arrests. These happen when felons try to buy from the dealers. However, private citizen to private citizen doesn't require a background check which should be changed. However, I have mixed feelings about registration especially since the press feels and at least one state's government agrees that information can be published.
Also, has anybody considered the cost of these "stronger" background checks? What would it cost to do an effective background check? Link every state's criminal records together so that a Virginia felon can't simply go to West Virginia to get a weapon? Link every mental hospital and licensed therapist and psychiatrist into a national mental health database? How about juvenile criminals, do they get a gun on their 18th b-day? How will people like it when employers get an employee to get an Federal Firearms License in order to access this database in order to never hire anyone who has had therapy? (Don't tell me it won't happen, more likely it will happen but no one but a few will know about it) According to the FBI there were over 180,000 attempts by felons to buy weapons, 77 were prosecuted. If that stat doesn't change, you can make all the laws you want.
By the way, successfully outlaw all guns, and in 2 high profile instances, Aurora and Columbine Colorado, and all that would have happened is people would have been blown up - is that the progress you are looking for?
You want to stop bad men with guns? You need good men with guns. Anything else and you are kidding yourself. What guards are military bases? Signs, laws, or good men with guns? Our banks? Our courthouses?
Do prisoners have guns? No? Then why do the guards? The criminals should know it is illegal for them to have weapons.
I'm allergic to getting hot. I carry an epi-pen to ward off anniphylaxis. And the sun gives us skin cancer. The sun sucks.
The above is part true story and part Adam Sandler reference. I'm not sure which part is true. Also unsure if this comment has anything to with the above memoir and comments.
I really am allergic to the process of becoming overheated (hot). It's an immune system epic fail. I have never smoked pot. The secondhand fumes at concerts make me ultra violent. Could be that I am allergic to pot as well.
I have a point though. You can't outlaw everything that hurts us. We must change the way we come in contact with that that hurts us. So I insist on open air seating at Dave Matthews concerts and avoid getting too warm. I also avoid edamame. Because sushi chefs don't kill, soy does. And my epi is my conceal carry that I never leave the house with. My other conceal carry I am quite accurate with. And yet I've never aimed it at a human or animal.
It's what we do with dangerous things that makes them dangerous. For this conversation thread anyway. I do think that we should hold....get ready for it...I'm going to piss someone off here....PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS... (The horror)...
And maybe, just maybe, if we start actively and without fail enforcing some of the laws that are already in place, we wouldn't have to make new ones to not enforce.
these six words leapt out from the sermon I heard in church this morning. Thanks Pastor Jodi. (I attend a Baptist church which has two lady ministers on the pastoral team.)We can live with peace and joy no matter...

And I loathe politics.
