Backstory
It's even cooler (because it's weirder) when you recall that 'vibes' is a redaction of 'astral vibrations'. I mean, c'mon. Even on a purely metaphorical level, this is something we can all understand. Maybe it's the radar of intuition. Even if we can't glean more than 'good' or 'bad' from something, it's still highly functional. Attraction and repulsion and fight or flight are still deeply ingrained, primal motivations, ones we have to act on constantly. Sometimes, something just feels wrong.
