Gifted in Alabama? Good luck, kid.

Backstory

I just heard a report that the gifted education budget for the entire state of Alabama is $1 million. As a person who has worked with and around schools for much of my career, this both dismays and embarrasses me. I guess the philosophy for gifted education and Alabama must be "If they're really THAT smart, they can figure this stuff out on their own." Way to shake off that whole "ignorant redneck" stereotype, Alabama.

Virginia isn't great either.

Mississippi, the state Alabama usually looks to when we need to feel better about ourselves, sets aside $60 million.

I guess if they're smart, they'll leave Alabama altogether.

Education cutbacks make my heart sick.

Apparently, the legislature believes if this program gets a gift, it's gifted. I hate it when I can't refute down-home logic.

Staraj says,

Only one logical solution to our fascist problems: anarchy. As Governor George Wallace never said:

In the name of the greatest people that have ever trod this earth, I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny, and I say disintegration now, disintegration tomorrow, disintegration forever!

Sweet.
