Maybe I played a part. Maybe.
Backstory
She was the tiniest thing when she walked into my classroom. I shared a piano bench with her for years. We studied Mozart, and David Lanz, and Hanon... And she sang at my wedding, after spreading flowers down my aisle. Now days we are friends. And she gives me far too much credit for her achievements. But a part of me will always be her teacher. And she will probably always call me Mrs. Elizabeth, even though I have told her Elizabeth would be fine.
These are her words. And you can hear her sing them at www.kaycemcgehee.bandcamp.com
Glitter and Shards of Glass

lyrics
you took off sprinting the first moment we met
with every inch i gave, you ran a mile.
the girls before were always quick to pursue;
you could win their hearts with your smile.
but now i realize how much i have to lose
i might play your game but i'm not easily amused.
chorus:
i see your sparkle lighting up my night
but i won't jump this gun so fast
you can't distinguish 'til you get inside
between glitter and shards of glass
you try to make me think i'm different to you
you haven't felt so safe in so long.
you think everything i touch turns to gold
well, you're so sweet, but you're so wrong
if you only knew what you looked like through my eyes
your polished charm is not the only thing that shines
(chorus)
i built these walls up for a reason you know.
i built them tall, i built them strong.
you can't just walk right up and then believe
you've earned your place all along.
so if i love you, you'll be the last to know
i'll be the first to stay but the first to go.
(chorus)
