Passing on what I have learned

Backstory

I love to teach – it is a gift God revealed to me at an early age. Throughout my adult life, whether in church or at work, I have been leading or teaching, and view these functions as interconnected. I have always viewed myself in an overlapping role of teacher and mentor, with an obligation to be a positive influence on others. Although I am an experienced and effective speaker, it has been placed in my heart to prepare myself to instruct at a higher level. I not only want to teach others to do the job they currently hold or are aspiring to, I want them to learn how to mentor those they lead.

At work I mentor young people who will one day take on my yoke when I lay it down. At church I teach young people about faith and caring for others – and preparing to take on leadership roles. At home, I teach my children – and soon, my grandchildren – the lessons I learned from my parents and grandparents. To all of them I emphasize the importance of passing on the lessons they learn to those who follow.

The image is a photo of my granddaughter and me on the day she was born.
