Vocabulary impressed. Thank you, Reader's Digest.

Backstory

It was a gift to my family from my grandmother for all the years I was growing up, that subscription which brought that little monthly publication full of "real life" stories of heartbreak and courage, humorous quips, and other food for thought. My favorite feature, of course, was "It Pays to Increase Your Word Power." That's just how much of a hopeless geek I actually am.

My father quizzed us with that at the dinner table. We all thought it was the height of fun. You see, I come from a long line of geeks and nerds.

AT, to this day I have tucked away a couple of the brain puzzles from Reader's Digest. They sometimes had some quite difficult ones and my father would cut them out, give them to me and pay me a quarter when I returned to him with the correct answer. Thx for bringing back such pleasant memories of him.

As a kid i always read my grandparent's issues and my favorite sections were word power and humor in uniform.

I'm right there with you - Reader's Digest was a big part of growing up, and increase your word power was one of my favourite sections. Thanks for nudging pleasant memories :-)

It appears our site is rife with Word Power nerds.
