This memoir reminded me of when we were without power after hurricane Sandy. During the extended outage, I went to Costco to buy some supplies. It was very apparent who had power and who did not by what was in their carts. In mine: socks, gloves, batteries and Duraflame logs. The next person's cart was filled to the brim with perishables and various electronics.
Sometimes you just gotta do what you just gotta do. I'm sure the kids liked their new undies and I bet those new socks felt great :-)
