Closing cultural gaps. Bubbie, Katz, pastrami.

Backstory

I am not Jewish. But I shared something else in common with the attendants of last night's event in NYC: I do have a grandma who cooks, and I have an undying love for food.

"Beyond Bubbie: Tales from the Kitchen" was thrown in collaboration with Smith Magazine as a celebration of great cooking, family, and priceless life lessons.

Inspired by so many great food tales, L2L3 decided we should check out Katz's deli before heading home. It was a great stop and well-worth the infamous New York cab fare.

I left last night feeling closer to a community I admittedly don't know much about - with their stories filling my head and the best pastrami reuben sandwich of my life filling my belly.

Quite lovely.

Level1 says,

The next time you're in NY try going to Sammy's on Chrystie Street for some great, old school Jewish food. If you can't get in (it's really small) you can always head over to Chinatown, it's not that far and more good food in guaranteed.

Love the story - makes me want to go to there, as Liz Lemon says.

A nice reuben can cure anything.

L2L3 says,

I'll sell the rights after she's able to eat their reuben without wearing it first. Ha!

Wench says,

I bow to your superior sandwich eating skills! It's true, I admit, I was a sloppy mess. Om nom nom!

L2L3 says,

You were a fun mess too. Thoroughly enjoyed the entire day out with you:-D

Jealous. Great food with another sizer in New York. I may add that to my bucket list.

This is awesome! I am so glad you went and that you had a nice meal with L2L3. Great featured backstory.

L2L3 says,

We had two and a half nice meals that day, plus chocolate;-D

jl333 says,

Sounds like a truly fun outing. And just for clarification...how do you eat 2.5 meals? Was one meal too big to finish?

L2L3 says,

Bigger than a snack. Smaller than a meal.

Sagacious says,

Phwoar!

oopsalittle says,

That looks so YUM!
Congrats on featured story
