Repeatedly warned to look both ways

Backstory

And just like a kid, "I forgot", which nearly cost me my life. So here's the story. In Australia, they not only drive from the passenger side of the car, but they also drive on the opposite side of the street. So as I went to cross the street, I naturally looked to my left and started to step off the curb once I saw that it was clear, and immediately looked to my right to see a car flying down the road. Luckily the girl I was visiting saw my error and yelled, which caused me to react quickly and avoid getting hit by an Aussie.

When I was in Great Britain, an American had to have a hip replacement after being hit. Was warned that many Americans get hit in London.

And now I know that if I ever visit G.B., I will surely heed to the advice. Lesson learned. Thanks DDCbytheC!

My brother-in-law did that and got hit by a car in London. The order in which we check traffic is so engrained that it even happens to extremely seasoned travelers.
