Tough cookie sheepishly returned to class.

Backstory

We had a runner today. Since the staff couldn't physically corral the kid, they just basically let him wander while keeping an eye on him from a distance to make sure he wasn't in any danger. The doors are mag-locked, so our little truant couldn't enter any of the other buildings. Finally, cold and damp, the young'un wisely gave up the adventure and returned to class.

The school psychology intern, with whom I'm temporarily sharing office space, related the story to me, ending with "I thought he was a tough cookie, but he just sheepishly returned to class." What made the retelling more magical to me was those words coming out in her wonderful Czech accent.

The chase wasn't fun anymore without somebody chasing him. Game over

Dean6805 says,

Exactly. The key is to not reward the bad behavior in any way, and to simply get down to business once he's back on track.

Being that I, too, work with kids, I couldn't agree more
