Backstory

I think this is my favorite thing about being a writing teacher: writing is a transaction of passions, emotion, heartbreak and dreams. It's part of what makes Smith so significantly beautiful, too.

BanjoDan says,

Teaching writing truly is a sacred profession

lillybrook says,

It is. Just this week, I got to share writing advice from Joan Didion, Natalie Goldberg, William Zinsser, Anne Lamott... I read poetry by Nikki Giovanni, Charles Simic, Jane Hirshfield, and Ezra Pound. I lead a charmed life.

Dragonflower says,

Wow! I miss my creative writing class. I had the best teacher once! It makes all the difference to have a thoughtful teacher like you. I know I talk about movies a lot, but one of my favs is Possession. It goes from modern times to the past hunting down the love life of two poets. My fav part is the scene where the poets' old letters to each other are found and they are read aloud. It seems so magical...I am fanciful, as you called me, lillybrook (i believe that was you) and love that quality about writing. The choosing of words, the expressing of emotions....

I've gone on and on again.....but it's why I enjoy this site so much. The absolute creativity of everyone.

Dragonflower says,

opps, it was unknown116 who called me fanciful. Like that term.

lillybrook says,

Fanciful is a good term for you, too! Wish I'd thought of it.

Redx3 says,

Isn't it the best? We hung out with Alexie, Longfellow, Cervantes and Frost on Friday. We are covering figurative language in critical analysis. I gave them "Freeway 280" to do on their own. So far, the results are interesting.
