Backstory
The following is a book review in the San Francisco Chronicle of the FABULOUS new Smith book:Things Don't Have to Be Complicated
Illustrated Six-Word Memoirs by Students Making Sense of the World By Larry Smith (TED Books; $2.99)
Larry Smith founded the literary magazine Smith several years ago, and soon after came up with a spin-off, Six-Word Memoirs, which has since spread across the country to classrooms of all levels and disciplines. This TED Books release, derived from a talk Smith gave on the project, features dozens of inspiring and funny illustrated six-word memoirs from students ranging in age from 7 to 58.
Smith's selections, curated from thousands of submissions, shows how little age has to do with perspective. A 9-year-old girl from Virginia creates a Jackson Pollock-like painting accompanied by the provocative words "Two girls, both of them me." A common theme, and a heartening one, is self-expression, suggesting that the Six-Word Memoirs project has given students a voice that they might not normally have. "Who says weird isn't a compliment?" asks one 13-year-old. Another echoes, "I've owned my weirdness. Have you?"

This gives me faith in people. Little else does. Weirdness rules.Believe says,
Although kind of tricky to see in the attached photo, this is a painting of two girls:the first girl is on the right in red, messy bun atop her head;
the second girl is on the left, its a profile of only her face, more in white, and she is screaming. (look for her nose which is formed by the the first girl's neckline)
Much easier to see in the actually painting on my living room wall.

That is so amazing! You must must be so proud ((inner face splitting grin style)) (outer congratulatory mom)! I rather naturally assume she takes after you?NumbrOneAunt says,

Red, I am very proud of her. As far as visual arts goes she does not take after me. She sees the world very differently than I do. Her soul is much older than mine. But I like the way she sees the world.DynamicDbytheC says,

I would buy that painting for my home.Believe says,
Wench, she has been a fan of Pollock for a while now. She likes many others as well, Kandinsky, Van Gogh, Jasper Johns, etc. She loves paint and color and blending. Let me know what Nathaniel thinks... And can you see the 2 girls?L2L3 says,
You gotta post a picture of the kid next to the painting. The painting is HUGE! About as big as the kid. It's way more awesome than it looks here and it looks really cool here.L2L3 says,
Come on folks... The book's only three bucks. Get it now while her autograph's still free;-D
