Taking a whack at winning Scrabble!

Backstory

Although I'm the better speller and better with words in general (he'd agree), my husband beats me at Scrabble about 99% of the time. He's the best at "seeing" words in his tiles. So good that he frequently uses all his letters (50 points) in one turn; he's even done it twice in one game.

I thought I was off to a good start yesterday when I used all my letters in the first move of the game! However, he picked all the "points" letters and used more of the triple word spots than I did and won by 40 points. To be continued...

There is strategy involved, for sure. A good vocabulary helps, but you have to see the whole board, too.

Working crossword puzzles is also helpful. I played recently and won, but the guy who came in second pushed me all the way. At one point, he played "imago". ????? The other player and I were dubious, but we Googled it and learned it's a real word: "the last stage an insect attains during its metamorphosis". He discovered it working a crossword.

Good luck, and mind your Z's and Q's.
