Giving the gift of life.

accidentaltourist says,

Donors...blood, organs, tissue....are a special group. I wish that more people who can give blood would do so, because there are many of us who cannot donate. I can't, my pressure is too low....they won't take it. My son was stationed in England and therefore exposed to Mad Cow Disease...he's out. My husband had hepatitis as a child...no donor. My one daughter tries to make up for us, and gives regularly, has since high school. The last blood drive in our area, she had a sniffle and they wouldn't let her give...she was quite upset.

jl333 says,

Sounds like it was successful! I try to donate when I can. However, the last 4 times I've donated, I've almost passed out. The last time I donated, several people came rushing over to me with fans and the such because I was feeling a bit dizzy.

DynamicDbytheC says,

jl333, take a lot of bread to eat next time you donate. I do not know the person who gave the blood James received last night, but it is a beautiful gift. He is strong enough for surgery and I am waiting for his operation to finish. They are putting pins in his hip. The tumor is weakening his pelvic/ hip area and he had a car accident which seems to have cracked his hip. If not for the blood donor, he would have spent days or weeks in pain, waiting for the effects of chemo to wear off.

ba_miracle says,

I did pass out...right after I said..."I don't think I feel well"...I felt like an old t.v. being turn off except for the heat...I was hot as hell ;-)

I should have eaten better that day

Thank you for the reminder...I'll try it again.

jl333 says,

DD, was James in a recent car accident...or is that from an old injury from a car accident? Sometimes I wish you could meet the donor. Nonetheless, James got a beautiful gift. I'm so happy that for once... something went right for you! Hopefully all goes with well his James operation.

DynamicDbytheC says,

jl333, James totaled his Jaguar convertible the Sunday before Thanksgiving cipoming home from the lab in the rain. Air bags deployed, but he got banged up and bruised because he is so thin. He was using a cane before the accident but then he kept getting worse. He had a huge bruise on his right hip that I didn't notice for a week. He may have not noticed it himself or he may have been hiding it from me as to not upset me. I called his Oncologist and after chemo they did scans and X-rays. The next day I got a call from the Othopedic doctor saying that James needed to go to the ER immediately. His hip had a fracture and he could dislocate it at anytime by walking on it. By then, his pain was unbelievable. It took a couple of days to get his pain under control and stabilize him for surgery. The scan showed that the tumor had taken over a large part of his pelvis, weakening the area. That may have made him more vulnerable to fractures. The tumor had taken over so much bone that it was starting to die because it was running out of blood supply. To that I said, Merry F-ing Christmas. This looks like it could be our last Christmas together. So if we spend it in the hospital, so be it. At least we spend it together.

jl333 says,

Damn DD...if it's not one thing, then it's another! Truly awful.

maryjane31 says,

I am RH-negative and have given many times in New Jersey. I fainted at least twice. I cannot give anymore. But one little boy got my blood and he is alive. Makes me feel so good.

mzejay says,

I'm glad your James benefitted from someone's gift. I am O+ and gave blood for the first time this year and have done it 3 more times. Because of my height and weight I was eligible to do a double red blood cell donation. I don't have the right proportions for super model, but I am all set for super blood donor.

DynamicDbytheC says,

mzejay, it is not about the body size, it is about the size of your heart. You and all blood donors give life and pay it forward. You are beautiful!
