Baby switching. Always check wrist bands.

Backstory

Was reading about the baby that was switched for a few minutes.

That brought back memories. At the hospital a few hours after my son's birth, the nurse brought a baby to me and said it was feeding time. I took one look at the baby and said "That's not my baby. Where's MY baby -- my baby is skinnier and was breech so he's all bruised up. Where's my baby. You need to find him NOW". The nurse compared our arm bands and she starting stammering about being new and practically ran out of the room. I hope that was a lesson she never forgot.

I saw that story. I am very thankful that I gave birth in a small town hospital where for good parts of my hospital stays, I was the only patient in OB. Their relaxed policies allowed my babies to stay with me most of the time, except when I went to the shower....in one case, the baby stayed in my room for the entire stay, because it was the hottest summer on record and the nursery temp was too hard to control.

If someone brought me the wrong baby by mistake I probably would have gone for her throat! This is not acceptable and if I had done that I would have been fired. I was trained in the "old school." Our motto was Check, check, and check again. Ok one more time, Check again please! Sorry you had to have that unfortunate experience.
