Angels. Santas. Snowmen. I'm without agenda.

Backstory

My Christmas tree holds years of memories. Although, I admire the beautifully themed trees that many people display in their homes, mine has everything from a necklace made of Cheerios (a gift from my 4 year old grandson) and hand painted Santas to miniature books. When my children were grown and settled in their own homes, I gave each of them 'their' box of ornaments - the ones they made and those that had been gifts - one for every year they lived at home - and a little story to go with them. Part of their childhood hangs on their trees and it ties us together.

It's beautiful, CF. I also have an eclectic tree full of memories. At night it's a glowing jewel. I just love to sit in the dark and admire it's splendor.

canadafreeze says,

Thanks. That's exactly what I'm doing right now. There is no other glow quite like it:-)

accidentaltourist says,

Another cosmic connection. My tree got leaner as I gave them their boxes of ornaments....but they have added framed photos of the grandkids to my collection. And I still hang the spray-painted macaroni ornaments they made in elementary school.

NumbrOneAunt says,

CF, this is a featured backstory! what a beautiful, thoughtful gesture! LOVE this!

MO_Thoughts2 says,

Family story trees are the best. Our tree has unicorns, dinosaurs, a large rubber bat, Pokemon, Digimon, horses, trains, hand print reindeer, and who knows what else mixed in with the snowmen and Santas. Wouldn't trade it for a dozen themed trees.

DynamicDbytheC says,

Lovely. I pile years of memories on my tree, too. This year is painful because we have tons of bike ornaments, tandem, Santa and Mrs. Claus on bikes, unicycle, racing bike, old fashioned bikes, etc. James still cries when I talks about the day he realized he would never bike again.

Believe says,

Love this. I was just talking with a friend about this. I used to have a beautifully designed Christmas tree. There is no sign of it in my home today. Now my tree is filled with Popsicle snowflakes and cut out handprints. It isn't that type of beautiful. It's the other type of beautiful.

L2L3 says,

My tree has always been a rich hodge podge of memories. Mine too, now has every ornament my child ever made, hanging in prominent spots on the tree. Love this story.

Bevvie says,

Count me in the non themed tree group! My tree includes gift ornaments with 1982 first Xmas for baby! Sadly, no tree this year, but the ornaments are still here waiting for next year

Kudos on the featured story, CF!

jl333 says,

Your tree is what you make it. And it looks lovely. Congrats on the featured story! Guess I'll share what's on my tree too...I have a sports and pet theme...most of our ornaments are jetskis with Santa, Santa snowboarding (loads of these, and all different), Various Santas surfing, Santa Roller Blading, Santa playing hockey, Santa skateboarding, Santa on motorcycles, motorsccoters, and quads. And then I have a about a dozen ornaments that belonged to my Mom, that I place in her memory every year. That completes my tree.

L2L3 says,

Congrats on the featured bachstory. Seems it is a story of many trees draped with love. Very, very nice.

canadafreeze says,

I love that one story begets another story - thanks everyone for sharing your tree memories:-)

JAD says,

congrats! such a beautiful tree story.

Redx3 says,

Such a lovely word picture of your tree, and exactly what I imagine you having! Ours is a sloppy, slap stick, love brimmed mess with antiquities strung up next to plastic singing Elvis, hand prints and a menorah and driedle. Like yours, its us, and so its beautiful. I love that you gave your kids their ornaments. Wish my mom had.

Loon says,

seems we all belong to the same Christmas club

MotorCityMich says,

Lovely tree and beautiful memoir. Congratulations!

Believe says,

Congrats.

oopsalittle says,

Love it - kudos

Staraj says,

When I was a kid, I SLEPT next to our tree. Something mystical about it. Nice memoir, CF.

favepeep says,

Love it all!

canadafreeze says,

Staraj - but not on Christmas Eve, I hope:-)

Staraj says,

Are you kidding, CF?! Actually, I COULDN'T sleep that night. So, I simply laid beside the tree. It was a tough job, but somebody had to keep it safe from the bogeyman. Or maybe it was the Grinch I was prepared to fend off. :-)

ba_miracle says,

Sounds like a perfect tree :-)

Dragonflower says,

What a beautiful tree! I have lots of ornaments but they are all carefully wrapped up, packed away in storage. There's one that my girlfriend made me in high school. It is a cookie cutter with ribbon around the edges and a little doll glued in the middle. Then there is a green rocking horse that I got at the first ornament exchange I ever attended at my very first job. I was like 18 or 19. Then there's all the ones my daughter made growing up. Next year I plan to get a real tree and take all those ornament out and enjoy them again! I have Hallmark Barbie ornaments too! Years and years of them! My confession is that ain the 90s, I did have "designer" type trees. All one color or something fancy. Pretty, but they weren't the same. Thanks for the picture and the memoir/backstory. So much!
