Lying is second nature for some.

Dragonflower says,

"We lie when it would be just as easy to tell the truth. We do so because we learned that truth has no value." One of my biggest lessons attending ACA meetings back in the 80s.

Heem08 says,

Thank you Autumn22 for that wisdom. I have been through 12 steps programs in the 80s but I have never heard that. Thanks for giving me something to reflect upon.

Dragonflower says,

We used to go around the circle, taking turns reading a step. ACAs had an additional list we read called The 12 Promises. That's where this came from. There's a second part to it that I can't quote, but it focuses on how recovery and practicing the steps will help remove that earlier learning. I used to lie over the simpliest things. "did you get the mail?" "Yes" (when I hadn't).

Dragonflower says,

Heem08: Need to correct myself. We did go around and read from different literature, but the one about the lying is not from The 12 Promises. It is from a list of characteristics of ACAs complied by Jan Woititz. I remember the lying one after all these years because it always seemed it was the one I always got to read when it was my turn. The Universe has a way of making sure you get the lessons you need. Thanks for reminding me of all this. We are never recovered, but always in a process of recovery. Sadly, ACA recovery groups have gone by the wayside in the town where I live.

Heem08 says,

There was one book in the ACA meeting that really helped me out ubfortunately I don't remember the title of it. It was a daily meditation book I even had a casette tape with some of the readings on it. I don't know about you but I know this site really helps me out a lot. I have heard that name Jan Voititz before. Thanks for sharing that with me.
