Larry_D._Smith says,

Mine, too. And it returns there often.

marymc says,

ditto

canadafreeze says,

I have family on the east coast, and I have a secret affinity to Jersey. On the opposite side of the continent, there was a major earthquake with aftershocks so big, they were fearing a tsunami. It barely made the news because of the power of the super storm. May life and limb be saved; cities can be rebuilt.

jl333 says,

Canadafreeze...the 7.7 earthquake in Canada actually did make headline news out here in California! It also made news in the our local newspaper. I hope your family is okay on the East Coast.

Redx3 says,

Family on the east coast, too. Praying for all, northern neighbours included.

accidentaltourist says,

Turned on the radio this morning and heard Bruce singing "Sandy"...too soon, morning DJ....much too soon.

maryjane31 says,

I was also born in New Jersey and still miss the folks up there a lot. Hope to make a trip up there for Christmas.

Loon says,

so, what accounts for Jersey's reputation?

notjustagirlintheworld says,

@loon people who can't appreciate, big hair, bruce springsteen, jersey corn and tomatoes and never got off the turnpike.

Signed,
Exit 4.

BanjoDan says,

I hope NJ will recover soon CF.

MotorCityMich says,

Never been there, but hope to some day (after it dries a bit, that is)!

b.dale says,

I only miss the culture, ethic foods, and the beaches of NJ. I grew up in Burlington, minutes from NE Philly. I do not miss the idiot drivers and high cost of living... I relocate back to my birth town ten years ago.

@ Loon - "What Exit?" Being the Garden State Expressway or RT 95; Yuppies and gold diggers. No one needs excess the way average NJ person is raised into...

Bevvie says,

hope your family and all families there are okay! It's in the 60s here! so hard to enjoy when others are suffering.

canadafreeze says,

It is dull and dreary where I live. They are forecasting flurries, and the sun hasn't shown her beautiful face for days. I was feeling quite sorry for myself because it is so dismal. Mother Nature has a way of humbling us. My people are safe and they have power and each other. I won't ask for anything more ...

accidentaltourist says,

Good news, CF....and you are right, we are often humbled by Nature's whims.

L2L3 says,

Thanks to notjustagirlintheworld, I have a deep appreciation for Jersey corn;-D

Contemplative says,

Born, raised, and living in Central New Jersey where approx 80% of the local people were without power. Transformers blowing up and looking like lightning. Winds roar was so loud yet the clammer of eachother to help everyone in need even louder. Batteries exchanged for gas cans, "charging station" just designated today at the Senior Center for cellphones and other peripherals. Connections spotty for phones and electricity, strong for interpersonal growth.

Thankfully my power came back on Wed night. Downed trees and telephone poles, yet lifted spirits. Gas is actually being rationed by odd an even license plates. The shore and coastal areas, I can't imagine. Lenghtening my gratitude list continuously.

Most people are safe and that's worth more than what's in the bank. A personal thanks for all those thinking of us here!!

Contemplative says,

BTW, formerly Exit 8A, currently Exit 9.

canadafreeze says,

Thank you for the personal report. I live far from the east coast, but my thoughts are there daily. My prayers are for a concerted effort to get things as normal as possible as quickly as possible. It sounds like everyone is taking care of each other, and that's what really matters.

Level1 says,

My husband and I spent a perfect September day in Mantoloking on the beach. Sandy rammed in a new inlet that has basically bisected the barrier island. There are too many sad stories to count.
