Parents don't understand my dream job.

Backstory

I was listening to my mom on the phone as she explained to my grandma what I wanted to do after college. "she wants to work with disasters" is what she said... that's not what I want. What I had told her earlier was that I want to work with Biological weapons, how they're made, how to destroy them effectively, make fast cures, or I wanted to be a researcher on an epidemic/superbug team that would help get an epidemic undercontrol, stuff like that. I can kindof guess where she got "disasters" from, but that made me sound like I was getting my doctorate's degree just to join the peace core, which is a noble choice, but not the one I want to take. Silly parents, lol

marymc says,

That's exactly what my step-daughter wants to do. Her family all say "Felicia wants to be a doctor". Coming from a Jewish family, you can imagine the weight that sentence holds. When I told my family I wanted to be an artist, all they could picture was me starving to death in a loft in Paris. My son works for In'n Out Burger. After graduation from college he wants to continue with the company and my family says "he's going to flip burgers for the rest of his life". Funny how some families spin it well and others don't.
