Even professional helpers sometimes need help. The Christian family counsellors I had to see were a mess, though. It was like they read a textbook and were confused when real people weren't as easy.
Most of the people that are really good at helping others - doctors, counselors, etc. - are good at it because they know how you feel. They've been very sick, or very depressed, or they were born into a confused family. They've been where you are, and can guide you and speak from experience as well as any education they may have backing them up. It's fine to be a future counselor that's going to counseling...might even make the difference between being a good counselor and a great one. Hoping for the best for you, Hannah.
You'll find that anyone wishing to pursue a career in formal therapy (be it psychology, counseling or psychiatry) must undergo a minimum number of therapy sessions. It allows other helpers to learn the profession, but it also encourages you to deal with any issues you have that might impede your work helping others. That said, I tell everyone I know that no matter who you are or how emotionally healthy you may be, everyone should undergo a year of therapy. It's one of the best things I ever did.
these six words leapt out from the sermon I heard in church this morning. Thanks Pastor Jodi. (I attend a Baptist church which has two lady ministers on the pastoral team.)We can live with peace and joy no matter...
