Never say "Things can't get worse!"
Backstory
Made the mistake of making this statement a few months after my Father died. Within weeks my Mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer beginning a 3 1/2 year battle for life. Ditto. Said that two cancers ago, one terminal. Things can and do get worse, sometimes all at once.
