After I had cancer the first time, I suddenly had no room in my life to be friends or even cordial with toxic people. Cleaned out the bad and have had a whole lot of good ever since. Some life events trigger a change in definition.
I think it's a sign of maturity when we begin to recognize the difference between friends and acquaintances. We're fortunate to have even one real friend--many have none and don't know it.
All of you are spot on...seems like so many are too busy to do the work that true friendship requires...the maintenence of the connections on all levels. Same with marriage, the most important friendship of all.
