Small cell change. Big life change.

Backstory

Two weeks ago I went to have my annual mammogram. Now I’ve met with my oncologist for follow- up and results. He told me there has been ‘a small cell change’ in the area where my first breast cancer tumour was removed. He said although he is not too concerned he wants me to have a follow-up mammogram in six month’s time just to be on the safe side. I’m trying to stay positive, but I’ve had flashbacks of chemotherapy and radiation and five years of medication. I am just starting to recover from all of that. My energy levels are getting better and I’ve started to lose the weight that I put on through the medication. I’ve just recently started using products in my hair again. I was just beginning to get some of my old life back - in six month’s time I will know whether cancer will spin my life around again.

thanks for your kind and positive words
I'm going to do my best to think and behave positively but it's going to be a long six months

notjustagirlintheworld says,

good energy headed you way. Keep breathing.

DynamicDbytheC says,

This is a heavy feeling that I know well. Hang in there. This is a powerful memoir.

Renn says,

Sorry you're going through this again. Are you OK waiting 6 months? Listen to your gut. If it is telling you not to wait, then demand a biopsy — NOW. You are the only one in charge of your health! Stay strong.

DynamicDbytheC says,

When my mammogram was a bit irregular I pushed for a biopsy. I DID have breast cancer and was Stage 0. That meant no chemo, no radiation and just a mastectomy. I chose bilateral rather than just one side. I was not a candidate for lumpectomy, long story. Needless to say, waiting was not what I wanted to do and it may have paid off.

Bevvie says,

ditto the positive, loving thoughts to you!

oopsalittle says,

Thanks so much. Yesterday I was feeling good - today not so much.
Appreciate kind words and advice.
I will ring the oncologist this week - what he said the other day - today seems a blur.

lgp120 says,

Thinking positive thoughts for you, praying for you, hoping for you.

Jujeebal says,

Waiting is always difficult. My partner and I have been there. We decided a while ago to focus solely on the present moment. When one does that waiting has no place. Now, she's much better at doing that than I am and I frequently find myself going back into the waiting mode and each time I'm there, I attempt to refocus on the present moment. It really helps. There is a wonderful book by Jon Kabot-Zinn - "Mindfulness for Beginners" check it out. Sending much positve energy and Metta your way Oops.

BanjoDan says,

Oops, i wish you the very best and you are in my prayers

marymc says,

jl333 says,

Group hug, group support, we're here for you Oops. Wishing you the best.

skyrocketjones says,

Hi Oops. I'm with Renn. Do Not Wait 6 months. Get biopsy now and or 2nd opinion. You have to be the expert and in charge as mentioned above. I'm in this group hug for you as well. I had breast cancer and a mastectomy in '91 and am still here with the help of, I believe, alternative means. I did the surgery, but instead of the drug Tamoxifen (sp?) and chemo recommended by my oncologist, I did a reputable 5 prong alternative program of detox, customized diet, enzymes, supplements (for 3 months) to assist my body in healing.

Have you researched the benefits of nutrition (juicing greens and vegetables, organic vegetables lightly steamed and in salads; organic meats, chicken and fruits); cutting way down on sugar and white flour products along with cutting out pork and processed foods that have hydrogenated oils or trans fats in them. Eating more this way might assist the body in healing itself after chemo or radiation or surgery. You have to decide on what works for you. I'm just offering other ideas. I will be praying for you, friend.

KharisJo says,

thoughts and prayers from Brisbane too oops. Hopefully when the wine is ready you'll be toasting your all clear results. All the very best.

Mourningdove says,

Best wishes , thinking of you!

oopsalittle says,

Thank you to each and every one of you and big hugs too - I am both overwhelmed and humbled by everyone’s beautiful comments and positive thoughts and prayer and wishes. I feel so grateful to have found SMITH and all of you here.
Sky and Renn – thanks for the advice – no – I’m not going to wait six months. I will seek alternative plan. Re diet – we eat healthy most of the time as my partner is a diabetic and I am gluten free. But I’m sure there is room for improvement so thank you for the advice about diet.
At the moment I’m reading ‘eat right for your blood type’. I’m impressed with some of the things that are very relatable to me.

Wench says,

Thoughts and prayers are with you and all the lovely ladies here going through similar trials. I hope you hear some good news.

sisterpoet says,

Wishing you peace through the process....Sister Poet
