Bevvie says,

Why, PKelly? Just curious?

L2L3 says,

Forgetting still leaves the feelings behind.

PKELLY says,

Because it was bad, and I'd rather the person I did it to could just forget about me and it, even though they offer forgiveness and reconciliation I do not deserve. Really bad. A proper penance would be indifference and alienation.

Wench says,

But if they can't forget, the only way to be happy is to forgive.

L2L3 says,

Can you claim temporary demon possession, intoxication or outright pigheaded stupidity as underlying factors? Forgiveness of the human condition is a great equalizer and unfurls a rare, flat, playing field.

canadafreeze says,

Forgiving is much harder than forgetting. That mat be bumper sticker logic, but forgiving provides a resolution and, as previously stated, provides a level playing field.
Perhaps you need to forgive yourself.

PKELLY says,

Yes, forgiving myself is on the list of to-dos first, sadly, been procrastinating on that front. L - I'll go with demonic possession and heinous circumstances as underlying factors....but still, not excuses. I know when I'm in the wrong. And of course I have apologized, but still, apologies are just words in the short-term.

L2L3 says,

Not if you complete the appropriate follow-through.
