I meet people everyday who have some sort of tragedy because we are at a lot of medical appointments. We all sort of expect tragedy later in life and most of us will not escape it. James' cancer is not considered curable and his treatment is "palliative." We put this in the back of our minds or we would be sad all the time and this would ruin the time we have for "living." This week, I consulted with a respected surgeon regarding his options. Even the experienced expert teared up while we were talking and it reminded me of the seriousness of our situation. We are going to LA this week to explore more options and are trying to think outside the box to extend James' life. To see and meet him and to think that such a dynamic, athletic, intelligent man may have his life tragically cut short even affects his doctors.
