Sending yourself up is no joke!

Backstory

Au contraire¬— it is, in point of fact, a matter of upmost gravity worthy of more attention than most of us usually give. We tend to think of up, as in upright, vertical, top-of-the-food-chain bipedalism, as a granted condition ¬¬– forgetting that it’s actually a learned condition. Though uniquely and perfectly structured for upright posture, we humans aren’t born upright, or even with the knowledge of uprightness. In essence, we’re left to figure it out for ourselves the hard way; through trial and error, practice and training for nearly a year, give or take... Fortunately, as babies we had nothing better to do and, driven by curiosity, we inevitably discovered that sending ourselves up isn’t that hard after all. How sad then that even as we become really skilled at it, we start to unconsciously take on habits of misuse that drag us down. By the time we are grownups — being up (standing, sitting or moving) often feels like backbreaking (metaphorically if not literally) work. If maintaining your stature is putting you out of humor, then a serious send-up might just be in order. Alexander Technique can help you figure out how, but it’s ultimately up to you!
