Workaholic became a father. Everything changed.

Backstory

Before October 2nd, 2011, I lived for work. I defined myself by my work as a teacher. Twelve to fourteen hour days were the norm for me. I spent my weekends at the school. Then, my daughter was born.

I still work hard, but my priorities are different. Strangely enough, becoming a father has made me a better teacher. I'm acutely aware that every student I teach is someone else's son or daughter.

Same sort of thing happened to me after having son. Used to be a pretty good adolescent psych nurse. Became a great one after being able to relate to the kids and their parents, as a parent.
