I have never been in labor, but I am sure they would be helpful there.
Since it is a six-word memoir, I feel as though I am cheating if I use a contraction.

don't think it's a problem in memoirs if it is what you'd naturally say but personally wouldn't use contractions and hyphens just to make the numbers fit.
