Gorgeoussss pic! I'm sure you're still beautiful. (We usually are too tough on our appearances.)

marymc says,

Way too tough, and thank you. I feel like I had my moments. Just weird seeing them sometimes.

Loon says,

not sad at all

oopsalittle says,

agree with above comments...
My niece is out shopping in Op shops (thrift shop?) today looking for 80's outfit - we just looked for huge huge shoulder pads - she looooved it - she's only 14...she may feel like you do now in a few short years....
congrats on feature:)

Steve__Anthony says,

Did you have the Working Girl shoulder pads, the Bon Jovi big hair groupie-look, or another look?

JAD says,

I've had people to tell me I'm prettier now, beauty can be ageless.

three-monkeys says,

I empathize, but I'm sure you are being too hard on yourself. And you were probably hard on yourself then too! I look back at old pictures of myself, and I think, "what the hell was I complaining about all the time - I looked GREAT." But of course, I didn't know it then. :(

Steve__Anthony says,

When people talk about beauty and "looks" I think about the following simple quote. Because in a world where we are mercilessly given too much time to evaluate our lives and purposes and our Gods and existance I believe this simply tiny quote paints the prettiest of pictures.

"Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart."
— Khalil Gibran

ctgoods2 says,

I so miss the 80s

marymc says,

Steve, my look from the 80's....see pic, and while your quote is nice, let's "face" it...society can be tough on women.

RedStickWriter says,

marymc, pretty then and pretty now. like older pic even better than this one. look at me. i'm writing like e.e. cummings.

marymc says,

Thanks Red. You're a pal.

Steve__Anthony says,

I stand by what Gibran wrote, "beauty is a light in the heart." I don't know about your 80s days but nowadays your thoughts, and passions and love of your family is as radiant as the sun. That's beauty. That's the flower that never dies. Loves pretty bracelets and tiaras. It's the secret little gifts you're willing to give yourself. Whether you know it or not you're getting "prettier" every day (just ask hubby :o)). ---That's who you are.

marymc says,

Wow, Steve. What a nice way to start the day! Thank you friend.

TaNkGirrrl says,

Looking back on the photos of me in the 80s, I looked good but thought I was ugly. I wonder what I'll think in twenty years when I look back on photos of me now?
:)

Litsa_Dremousis says,

Mary, I just wanted to say how much I look forward to your stories! All the best! Litsa

EternalRose says,

I absolutely love your pictures! Please don't be so hard on yourself. I know I am and it drives my friends and family nuts. :)

marymc says,

OK all you "80's Ladies"....Group hug. We're going to ALL be nicer to ourselves from now on. Deal?

DynamicDbytheC says,

1. New trend, changing picture to match post?
2. I don't know about this picture, hair not big enough and make-up quite tame and no shoulder pads hitting your ears.

marymc says,

Ok, you got me, this was 1989. I was pregnant, had just cut the BIG hair and none of my blazers were fitting anymore. The make-up was just this side of "Addicted to Love".

lgp120 says,

At least you have a pic!! I had big hair and was HUGELY pregnant with twins in 1989--not exactly a photo opp!! I love your pic--it's awesome..I still think that was a great haircut!!

marymc says,

Thank you lgp! Regardless of the era, it's probably the single best photo I have ever had taken.

Level1 says,

I think I had that same hairdo! I used to think that my best looks days were behind me too, but I am much more confident now then I was then and am holding up pretty good for a 50 yr old chick. If you project good vibes they come back to you :-)

marymc says,

Thanks Level. I am trying to keep that in mind, as I push 50.

oopsalittle says,

marymc - your inner beauty outshines any fad
