sisterpoet says,

Hmmm? Support collective bargaining or eagerly awaiting their demise???

BanjomanDan says,

I enjoy your stories, congrats on the feature!

oopsalittle says,

congratulations - well done!

JVS says,

Thank you for the compliments. Never seen our state so divided. I hope our governor will begin listening to members of BOTH parties who want to come together and work on better solutions.

three-monkeys says,

Congrats on the MOTD - nicely done! My mom and several sibs have lived in Milwaukee for 20+ years. Good luck to you there!

JVS says,

Thank you. Milwaukee's a great city. And now, off to a fish fry!

othermother6 says,

Keep moving. In Austin we are cheering you on.

JVS says,

Thanks for the support.

As a fellow Wisconsinite I love that you got featured! I definitely suggest getting to Madison if you can- no matter where you stand it's something work experiencing.

RedStickWriter says,

Kudos for feature. I am a big fan of teachers. I am not a big fan of unions. The people who run unions are just like the people who run corporations. The people who are on the far right are just like the people who are on the far left. Don't move to the left. Move to the middle. One more thing. Capitols are not sardine cans. Those people should be outside. The cold air might cool their tempers. Where is the fire marshall? Kudos again for capturing a pertinent view in six words. That's not always easy. Look how many it took me.

RedStickWriter says,

By the way, I went to banking school at UW-Madison, spending two weeks there in five different summers. I love the university, the city, and the people. Of course, I've never wintered there, but all of those tunnels under the campus gave me an idea of how serious winter must be there.

Ciera says,

Way to bring Wisconsin on the memoir map! I too spend a lot of my time thinking of what's falling apart in our state. Crazy.

sisterpoet says,

All eyes should be on WI. All ears should remain open. All minds should do the same. Middle is indeed a good place...Negotiate

JVS says,

Governor Walker used similar tactics when he was Milwaukee County Executive. While he did create some change for the good, balancing the budget was not one of them.

The unions (collectively) have brought about great change for all workers--but most of those changes go back 50 years. Since then the perception--as RedStickWriter states--is that they are no better than the corporations they once battled with.

I truly hope that we can find a middle ground that benefits the most. In the meantime, I'll stay on the left, hanging out with my fellow middle to lower classers trying to get heard. I'd much rather have my tax money go to them than the executive suite.

Thanks all for the kind and thoughtful words.
