Man she wasn't suppose to marry.

Backstory

On a number of occasions my beloved mother-in-law has soberly and half-drunkly said that she had hoped that her daughter had married a doctor or a lawyer.

... and yes, this is a chip upon my middle-class shoulder.

Believe says,

Our supposed to's have never stopped our we did's.

I know well of what you speak. .

marymc says,

My husband's aunt told me if any of her children had married a non-jew, they'd be dead to her. I don't need to be in the same room with her ever again.

Steve__Anthony says,

I have to give credit where credit is due. She rides a mean broom.

canadafreeze says,

why do they do that to us ...

Steve__Anthony says,

Not sure. I just hope I will never be disappointed in my son's heart whenever he grows up and falls in love.

marymc says,

I vowed I was going to raise someone a good husband. I also vow to be the best MIL. I take joy in the fact that his taste has gotten better over the years.

NumbrOneAunt says,

wonder if your MIL ever gives thought to how much she's hurting her own daughter when she says things like this. also, your love for holly just glows in everything you write about her. i'd think your MIL would be delighted to have a son-in-law who's such a devoted husband and father. (not forgetting adam - smile)

Loon says,

she's an asshole

maryjane31 says,

I have to agree with Loon. He always sums it up perfectly for me.

notjustagirlintheworld says,

Don't ever let anyone else define or undermine you. Period.

DynamicDbytheC says,

I'm with Loon and he did it in THREE words. I would have only used on. But Loon is more proper than me.

notjustagirlintheworld says,

To quote my mother "a good mother in law keeps her mouth shut and her pocketbook open." And she not only says it but she does it.

Steve__Anthony says,

Notjust... apparently my mother-in-law has some form of dyslexia --- because she's got it backwards.
