I don't think of preparing for disaster as a specific. I grew up on the Atlantic coast. Every year there was a hurricane. Every full moon there was flooding. It just made sense that services would fail. Rural living requires back up plans. Urban and suburban living requires different approaches. Sensible should assume that services can fail for up to a week. Nothing superstitious about that. Things man made will fail, eventually.
