saw paul simon on one of the late night talk shows many years ago (but after he and art were no longer performing together) and he said, "I've known artie since we were 14 years old - i don't know if you even still KNOW anybody you met when you were 14..." and went on to talk about how such a longstanding relationship inevitably has ups and downs. i didn't get the sense that he doesn't like art garfunkle, but i do think that as artists they grew in different directions. at least we can still listen to the body of work they created together- it wears well!
