I had been on Lipitor at one point and some time into taking it, I started to feel ill and just kept pushing through for weeks. I was trying to move something (with help) that I had moved on my own months before and fell/dropped it. That's when I noticed that my whole body felt soft/no tone. I stopped taking it and figured I would see the Dr. if i didn't feel better and get prescribed something else.
I didn't know if any of that was related but when I googled how I was feeling after noticing my weakness...Lipitor came up in the top results.
Within less than a months time I was in the hospital having my gallbladder removed and felt perfectly miserable just about everyday after that.
I started taking a drug called Welchol in January and will see how it has effected my cholesterol next month. Whether it is working for that or not...it has made a huge difference in how I feel.
This drug does not interact with your body the same way statins do. It works with the bile ect in your stomach.
I don't know if it would be helpful for your husband to try but I hope that something helps helps him.
I had been taking Lipitor for years also, with no side effects. However, I've been coughing for no damn reson for a couple of years, tried everything from reflux drugs to allergy meds, no change. Then I had been hearing that women with no known cardio ailments were not benefiting from statins, so I stopped taking Lipitor for a few months and guess what? No more coughing! Coincidence - I think not. I will ask my doctor for a recommendation shortly.
He's on metoprolol. After 2 heart attacks, on mild, one biggie, he's on a ridiculous number of drugs, but this one seems to be causing the mood swings, memory loss, vision & hearing problems & sleeping issues (he can't function on disturbed sleep like I can). He's not on a high dosage, but they're looking into what he can be on that won't interact negatively with everything else.
I take a statin cholesterol pill...high cholesterol runs in the family...even though I would consider I have a pretty healthy lifestyle. After 6 months of taking the statins...my numbers went even higher ( and that's with limiting my intake on dairy and red meats!) To border line high risk. my twin brother had a heart attack at the age of 34, and most of my uncles and Grandpa had heart attacks in their 40's. I'm more or less screwed with bad family genes. Hope everything goes well with your hubby!
I am seriously trying to lower numbers on my own. Gave up so many things I love to eat. Taking Vitamin B5, Pantethine, my nutritionist recommended. Will get cholesterol checked again around April to see if I have improved. Still losing weight (already lost 50#), exercise every day, walking, and now adding yoga, and keep stress low. It isn't fun not being able to eat my fav comfort foods, but I just don't want to take any medication, so that's worth it to me. I have side effects phobia. My bp is normal now. Use to be scary high. I feel really good every day, and have now for 3 years. For the last 16 years before that usually felt pretty awful so the change is like a miracle to me. If you knew what I don't eat, I would be very boring person to you (if I'm not already!)
It is hard to make lifestyle and nutrition changes, I know. Sometimes it is just hereditary. Hope everything goes well for everyone and that the right solutions are found that work for each of you and your loved ones.
these six words leapt out from the sermon I heard in church this morning. Thanks Pastor Jodi. (I attend a Baptist church which has two lady ministers on the pastoral team.)We can live with peace and joy no matter...
