First step away from mom: bittersweet.

Backstory

My boy has been walking for a couple of weeks now but would only attempt solo steps if I was in front of him to catch him. Today he took his first steps away. It made me realize just how soon he would be running away from his mama out into the big wide world...

if it helps these moments go on...my 12 year has just recently started 'putting himself to bed' also bitter sweet, mostly because he is my 'baby'

So very sweet ...

I have three boys, oldest is almost 7 now. They all still need their Mama and are Mama's boys. Hopefully that won't change, though I am sure they will pretend not to be needy at some point. You will always be the touchpoint, no matter how far away your son roams! Lovely memoir.

I had one of these moments this week that feels more sweet than bitter. It's been a long week at work and then with kid activities, most nights I haven't gotten home until 8, and then it's time to get the 3 year old ready for bed, homework support, make lunches... there hasn't been much time in my time.

BUT, on Wednesday night, when I'd actually planned to get home early and it fell through, I stepped out of the car onto freshly shoveled (yes it snowed here again) walkways thanks to my 13 year old. I walked in the door at 6:30 to the smell of homemade pizza from my 16 year old. Homework was done. We ate, watched a movie, and then I read stories to the 3 year old. I didn't have to ask for a thing.
