Some memoirs I mailed to myself.

Backstory

This is something I invented to raise my self-esteem. Before I had the courage to post online, I would mail my memoirs to myself. I had a post office box for a while. Mostly I just got junk mail newspaper flyer type ads that filled the box, and I had to check it every week to keep it cleaned out. To make this more fun and useful, I decided to mail myself two memoirs each week, written on both sides of a 3x5 index card. They were uplifting messages of love, hope, and encouragement as I worked through some personal issues. I would sometimes draw pictures too, and decorate the envelope with stickers, or drawings, and fancy lettering.

The routine was I had one envelope ready to mail when I visited the PO Box. So there was always a week lag before I'd see my mailed memoir. Strange as it might seem, I usually forgot what I had written the week before and, sometimes even forget I was doing this, so I would be delightfully surprised when I'd check the mail and see my envelope and my words.

And just as it happens here, the words magically took on the meaning and significance that I needed for that particular week. Words are like that. They know what you need when you use them with love.

For the price of postage: Self-esteem.
