L2L3 says,

There's an old lifesaving station on Lake Superior's south shore in the U.P. of MI that was a favorite place to explore as a kid. Four-wheel drive and a hike got you there. Stories from an elderly woman who lived nearby fueled my imagination and motivated me to beg Dad to get me there.

RaisedByWolves says,

Several still stood into the 1960's, along the outterbanks into Virginia. A few shipwrecks broke the waves from Sandbridge to Nags Head down to Pea Island and Cape Hatteras. Legend claimed Pirates still roamed where Spanish ponies ran.
